1. Diet
The pups start to grow rapidly on the 42nd day of the pregnancy. At this point, since puppy chow is so full of the protein and energy your mother will require, you should think about giving her some. Certain veterinarians advise feeding your dog three or four smaller meals a day, since feeding larger meals might be challenging when your dog is a puppy.
2. Vaccinations
The immunisations of your cherished dogs should always be current, but it’s especially important during or before pregnancy, if at all feasible. Ups receive protection from their mother and her milk when they are born. But only if she is completely shielded will this take place.
3. Worming
Dogs who are expecting should receive a daily wormer, such as fenbendazole, starting on day 40 of their pregnancy and continuing for two days after. This is necessary to stop the puppies from acquiring worms from their mother after birth.
4. Exercise
Your dog shouldn’t be getting too much exercise. After they’ve gone past the 30-day mark, you should restrict their exercise to shorter walks to prevent them from growing overly fatigued. When our dogs are tired from a walk or decide they don’t want to go for a walk at all, they will usually let us know. Pay attention to them. Moms are the experts after all!
5. Preparing For Birth
Whelping is a common term used to describe childbirth. You should prepare the mother-to-be by building a whelping box in a peaceful part of your home. The box should have clean blankets, towels, and puppy pads inside, and it should be large enough for the mother and puppies to sleep in comfort.
6. Welcoming The New Puppies
You must be ready when the moment comes. Puppies need to be raised in a cosy, warm room with lots of amenities. When your dog is in labour, you can usually tell because they will get agitated and start to pant. It usually takes 20 to 60 minutes for each puppy to be born during labour.
7. Knowing When It’s Time To Call The Vet
You should have the information ready for a veterinarian in case you need it during labour. You should absolutely call if the time between puppies is more than one hour or if the number of puppies is lower than anticipated. Recall that your dog’s pregnancy and labour are significant experiences for them. Make an effort to remain composed, organised, and as comfortable as you can for them.
